Welcome back to the new season. Here’s hoping we are all healthy, happy and looking forward to playing hockey again. Rose and I have had some success since we have taken over, just in case you haven’t been on the web site recently here’s an update. Rose attended a section meeting at Fry's Club and following from that we met with Kevin Collett who has pledged £200 pounds a month from September 2009 to April 2010 to help with pitch hire, as we aren’t based at Somervale and most other sections have subsidised help with hire of facilities. We have arranged to go back to Fry's for Teas, this will cost £10 per team which the club will pay and we will look at the cost at the AGM next year. We have also been successful in being awarded £500 from Keynsham Town Council and we hope to spend some of this money on training equipment. That is some of the good news. The bad news is we need your membership money to be paid by the 15th August which is slightly later than agreed at the AGM but hopefully you have managed to save some extra pennies.
Remember No Pay No Play, but please speak to us if anyone has any problems and we will try and help where we can.
Training will start on Wednesday 2nd September from 7-8pm for the Ladies' section and from 8-9pm for the Men. We can, of course, meet before the allotted time but please remember that the pitch time is for identified sessions so if you need to warm up or do extra fitness please use the nearby netball courts. But of course we have all been working on our fitness, haven't we...? With the start of the season come the friendlies! Gemma Wookey has managed to book games from the 5th September for the Ladies. News about Men's matches to follow soon.
Thanks everyone for taking on the roles and for the Vice captains for also standing. The 2nd team are still in Wessex Division 2. Let's hope we can stay there this season!
As some of you may know Belle Curtis’ husband Colin needed to have a very serious operation, there is a fund raising event at Fry's on 15th August. Colin needs to have an adapted bathroom and a Race Night has been organised to raise funds towards it. Tickets are £1. Charlene Fleck is selling them so please contact her, if you are unable to come but would like to make a contribution please also get in touch with Charlene. Let’s do what we do best and make this a really successful night. It is in the Lodge with a bouncy castle so children are welcome. The more the merrier. We have a Skittles' Night organised for the 12th September and one in February - more news to follow. See you all soon Louise and Rose |
