ACWHUA will be holding a Foundation Umpires Award
on Sunday 19th February 2012 at UWE, Frenchay Campus. The day will start
at 9.30am and will conclude at 1pm. The
Foundation Umpire Award (FUA) is designed for young students or
inexperienced club players between the ages of 9 and 16 (age limits are
flexible) who want to learn about the skills of umpiring and have a basic
introduction to the Rules of Hockey. It is an enjoyable, inter-active
course involving two sessions, totalling three hours, and based around
classroom and pitch based activity.
The morning will be classroom based and will teach
the candidates the rules of the game and the role of the umpire. There
will be a short time spent on the pitch, the aim of this session is to
familiarise the students with the pitch, a whistle, communication,
signalling, movement and positioning and working as a team. The morning
will conclude with a 20 minute examination on the rules of hockey and the
role of the umpire.
The Award is not intended to provide 'qualification'
into senior competitive hockey match umpiring (Umpires intending to
participate in competitive hockey are advised to do the England Hockey
Level 1 Umpire Award), but as an introduction to umpiring in general and
also to gain a better knowledge of the rules of hockey. The cost of the
course will be £10 per candidate. Should you have any youngsters who wish
to attend the course, please complete the attached registration form and
return it to me at the earliest possible convenience, payment may be made
on the day. Please note the course is open to a maximum of 20 candidates
and places will be filled on a first come first serve basis. Should you
have any further questions regarding the course please do not hesitate to
contact me or any member of the ACWHUA committee.
